If you have a ATi Video card and you are using Windows 7 drivers that came off Windows Update.I recommend you go here and See if you video card is listed under the Windows 7(32bit or 64bit) Listing: If it is then download the latest version off there and it will fix many Windows 7 issues and you get Catalyst with it to beable to play games and change settings. If your Video card is NOT listed there then keep checking because the driver priority goes as follows Newest & Most Used to Oldest & Less Used. I have been testing my Sapphire Radeon X1550 PCIE 512MB on windows 7 RC for the past few days.
When I updated the driver with Microsoft suggested Radeon X1300 / X1550 Series (Prerelease WDDM 1.0) driver, I was not able to make use of the AMD-ATI-CCC features, whereas Windows 7 Aero works fine. But when I updated the driver with AMD/ATI provided 8.593.100.0 dt. For the Sapphire Radeon X1550 (Original Graphics Board) the AMD/ATI CCC recognizes the driver but I am loosing the Aero effects as it is not coming under the WDDM standards.

Is there any chance of getting WDDM standard driver for the above? This I am raising because the AMD/ATI have already declared that X1550 has been moved to Legacy and will not be supported on the latest CCC and we are supposed to use it under old 9.3 version meant for windowsXP/Vista. On account of this my graphics card is not being listed under Windows 7.
The updation of drivers also affects the performance index from 4.0(WDDM) to 1.0(non WDDM). Whether I have to go in for up-gradation of my graphics card? Can anybody throw some light on this? As i stated if its not in the list give it time and they will eventually have it up:) but that too is an out-dated card, so you may just have to wait till MS gets a better release of it working. As long as ATI doesn't update the legacy drivers, I would recommend you to use only the drivers from Microsoft Update Catalog = those provided by Windows Update. I've experimented with several alternatives, just to be presented with BSOD's, loss of screen scaling features, etc. As of now, any driver version with CCC (or newer than 8.561) will not work on legacy cards. Mobile AMD64 3000+, VIA Apollo K8T800 chipset, 1 G RAM, ATIRadeonMobility 9700, 20x DVDRW, C:XPSP3 (55G),D:WIN7 (25G),F:DATA (250G). Every time I go to that page lately I get a Unauthorized Download error page, since I got a new card I've only been able to download drivers once so they are a little bit old now. Anyway, when I get the drivers, do I have to uninstall the previous (from Windows update) or just run the.exe and it will do its thing? Its the first time I have Ati card and dont know how its best to deal with the drivers.

I'm using an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 in my pc. I was very frustrated that none of the versions of Catalyst actually installed drivers for my card the way they did with Vista. As an experiment, I went into Add New Hardware, and I searched through drivers that Windows 7 has for ATI cards. It didn't have the Mobility Radeon 9600, but it did have the Radeon 9600.
